Research Program
Our aim is to create a collaborative research centre with the capability of pursuing world class research and training relevant to gas infrastructure. The scope of research extends from high pressure transmission pipelines (which move large quantities of gas and other fluids over long distances across Australia) to the lower pressure distribution networks (which service industrial, commercial and residential end-users), along with the facilities and systems which accompany these assets. GIRA’s research program is divided into the following three areas:
RP1: Infrastructure Development
Research to improve the design and construction of new infrastructure, including challenges related to emerging fluids such as hydrogen, biomethane and carbon dioxide.
RP2: Infrastructure Operations
Research to enable the safe, efficient and sustainable operation of gas infrastructure, including topics such as asset integrity, predictive maintenance and gas quality management.
RP3: Strategic Research
Facilitating an improved understanding of the role of gas infrastructure in a changing energy landscape; topics include systems modelling, policy & regulation, and community & consumer understanding.
